Where da hell ya been man?

Where da hell ya been man?

Well, according to my camera, which I haven’t bothered plugging into the computer since August 18th, I’ve been out and about and took 166 photos of lame stuff while out and about.

Basically I’ve tried to spend as little time indoors as possible. Seems such a shame to waste a single minute sitting inside when soon enough winter will be here and that’s all I’ll be doing. Except for work.

Plus it doesn’t help that I can’t think of anything worth saying anymore.

So, here’s some pictures.

Time to go sit outside and stare off into space.

  1. Wish I had enough knowledge of previous outdoor type writers/chroniclers to know some names. But your work – the imagery and the text (however much or little in proportion in any article) – transport the reader in an unusual mix of rural-and-city, emotional, spiritual, and outdoorsy reflection.

We are not out there, in the great lands of the west, southwest, northwest, or other heralded outdoor spots. We are here – urban, suburban America – where small areas of parkland, woodland, remnant prairie, bits if undeveloped riverbanks, etc., are all we have.

you combine all these sensibilities well. Then again, maybe its just ’cause I know you and how you think, and think along those same lines.

    1. Very nice mix of photos, Ken. The red/orange beetles and raspberry-colored sunset are especially striking.

      1. Walt, that raspberry sunset surprised me when I opened it up. The colors were there but not all that bright when I took the picture last night, but the low light and the odd thing point and shoot cameras do at low light really brought out the color. Same thing happened with all the sky shots. I really didn’t mess around with these much in Photoshop. Didn’t have to.

    2. One of the things I’ve always tried to do Bob was stay local. Being a former city boy, it’s my way of showing people what’s out there and it’s not that far. You do the same with your shots and a lot of them I know are taken right in the city or at places like the Arboretum. Only you’d never know it because of how you shoot them.

I did notice with these I seem to do only two things, close ups and landscapes, nothing really in between. I’ve been kind of aware of that, but this batch hit that mark more than usual.

    1. Thanks Dan. I’m not sure how I feel about these. There’s something more I expected to see, but I don’t know what that is or how to describe it. I’ve just been shooting things that catch my eye and I’m not quite sure why till I look at them again.

My favorite of these is the road shot where the tree on the horizon looks like it’s coming out of the road. And, the sky did look like that that day because of storms far off to the north. It’s actually quite a dull shot, but I find it intriguing.
