Sun Rise Moon Set

Sun Rise Moon Set

Saturday, October 19th, 7:05 AM.

Off to the east the clouds were low and gray.

To the west, not a cloud in the sky.

Even in the low morning light the western horizon glowed from the harvest dust.

Nothing glowed much back to the east.

Directly overhead, the distinct line of the incoming cold front.

And it got colder.

Two hours later, two fish later and increasingly numb fingers, I gave up.

I got what I came for, may as well go home.

  1. it ain’t always easy to get what you came for; less easy still, sometimes, to accept it.

    1. It was a nice walk in the water Bob. Lots of wildlife kept me entertained.

  2. Sounds like a beautiful morning. I love dawn in the autumn.

    1. I found my fingertipless gloves after I got home that morning Jim, otherwise I may have stayed out longer. The other side of the river was beckoning me, but my fingers were begging for the car heater.

  3. I take my dog out at 4 am after my bio alarm goes off. Full moon was magnificent. Had my tipless gloves on last Thursday evening and Lance was on the water too. I had picked up just a couple in deeper water below the bridge and 2 more later. Barely learning the process. Just like being out there. Couple other times last two weeks with mixed results
Lance has found some walleye near Saweeke so it might be time to start looking for those.
    Sure enjoy your pics. Dick

    1. Hey Dick. I wanted to get to the other side to try for that pike again and there’s some nice deep water over there. Those walleye have to be in there. Not sure how much more I’m getting out this year. We’ll see when Indian Summer hits. I’m sure I’ll get buggy.

      1. I’m usually crazy enough to bundle up and battle the cold. We fish the IL river all winter as long as it’s not iced up. Love the sunny wintry day as long as the ice isn’t freezing in the eyelets.

  4. Saturday morning it was still pretty nice out here, good for fishing, but I sense that you’re sending us some cold stuff by the slow train. I ain’t quite ready!

    1. Temps have been dropping dramatically the last two hours Walt. Possibility of wet snow on Tuesday. I’m definitely not ready for this yet.

  5. The photos were well worth it! I had on my gloves the other day. Not ready for winter.

    1. I refuse to cave in and put on gloves yet. I have a feeling that will be short lived. I have yet to find too many trees of color around here. Was jealous to see the reds in the photos on your blog.

  6. You rock old man! I would have convinced myself it wasn’ optimal conditions and would have stayed home.

    1. Most times Howard I just need the walk and the river offers more to look at. I should leave the rod at home on days like that and just explore. Sometimes you just know the fishing is going to suck any way.
