What to do What to do

What to do What to do

One of these days I’m going to figure out what to do with all these pictures I take.

I find myself out wandering just shooting with no real thought given to them.

Most turn out quite bland and yet, in my head is an image stew.

Back when I used to paint I used to paint images over images over and over again.

My head is telling me to start combining these somehow.

Orderly, abstract, disparate, just put them up together somehow, one after another, above and below each other, nice neat lines, sporadic and let the images figure out whether or not they play well together.

I open folders and browse, couple of seconds per image. Playing the possibilities out in my head. Putting things together. Rotating them. Flipping them.

I have a memory for images, not words.

I walk away and they keep playing in my head.

Wake up in the middle of the night and the slide show continues.

One of these days I’m going to figure out what to do with all these pictures I take.

If for no other reason than I need to get some sleep.

  1. i need to go fishin’. i’ve some maggots that are still, amazingly, somewhat alive from last autumn. Mini mites and maggots. deadly

    1. Exploring this weekend a bit, I think fishing will begin next weekend. Or at least attempted. By then the ice should all be gone and the water should be able to start warming up. I know fish could be caught now, but I’ve waited nearly four months, a few more days won’t kill me.

  2. Same here. Boatloads of shots that only make sense to me. But you can’t let them go so you fill up your drive. What else can you do?

    1. Two years ago when I bothered to check Mike, I was up to 10,000 images dating back to about 2000. They add up fast. Over the winter I bought a 3 terabyte drive. The image size from the new camera is about 5 to 10 times bigger than my point and shoot, especially now that I shoot everything in RAW. Ran out of room fast last year.

I’ll figure out something to do with all these things, or just leave them for my kids to sort out… why the hell did he take a picture of that?

  3. Can you do a photo library here on your blog? If not, I have a photographer friend who uploads his to Shutterstock. According to him, they have some cool options.

    1. I’m not sure Jim. There are some cool plugins and other themes out there that might allow it. Never looked into the details. I have a whole other site called It Could be Anywhere that I let sit out there and languish. That’s where all the photo’s will go some day.

Now you have me curious if it can be done. Would be a nice feature.

I use Shutterstock all the time for work. I’ll have to look into what they offer. You would think I would have by now, but I’m too busy at work at that point.

      1. I said “Shutterstock” when I meant “Shutterfly.” Sorry for the confusion.

        1. Thanks Jim, I know of that one too. Will definitely have to take a look.

  4. When you figure it out let me know. I’ve got two storage accounts. One for the blog and one for everything else plus boxes and boxes of pictures hidden in a cedar chest. I feel like I’m drowning.

    1. I wasn’t even talking about the pre-digital age pictures Howard. At least a couple of bins full of those I don’t know what to do with.

I need to retire to have the time, but then if I had the time I’d be out fishing all the time and taking more pictures.

      It’s a vicious cycle.
