A Matter of Perspective

A Matter of Perspective

Damn near everything is a matter of perspective.

Either you can see a nice flower nestled in amongst the garbage humanity loves to leave behind.

Or you can change your perspective and just see a nice flower.

  1. Wow Ken, you did a great job on those flowers. You either see them or you don’t. You do.

    1. Like my sunsets, I go looking for them Howard. Ran into a patch of the tiniest little pink flowers the other day while stumbling around out in the woods. None of the pictures do them justice. The lens wouldn’t let me get close enough and it had a hard time focusing on them.

  2. We got those irises too; they’re invasives from Europe, and present pretty much everywhere now. But as you point out, at least they’re beautiful; there are a lot of other human-sourced things in the outdoors that are a great deal less welcome.

By the way, I uploaded a shot of some of ours last month. It’s here: http://rustyring.blogspot.com/2015/05/ww-yellow-flag-lilies.html In this case they’re growing on the high tide line. Water’s their thing. (Fresh or salt.)

    Nice post!

    1. I saw that post when you put it up Robin. I’m a good reader lately, but horrible at commenting.

Ran into a big patch of them on a creek yesterday, biggest bunch I’ve ever seen. Now you’re going to make me look up their habitat needs. Since I’ve only found them just above river and creek water lines, I’ve always assumed they’ve washed out of people’s yards and into the moving water when there are flooding events.

I find a lot of the less welcome human sourced detritus. The old boy scout in me would never allow me to drop garbage on the ground. I’ve always made the wrong assumption that everyone thought like that.

  3. nice camera work, good eye.

    1. On the second one Bob, I forgot to adjust for depth. Wanted the whole flower in focus, but kind of blew that. The sun cooperated nicely in the background. No real effort on my part to get what I wanted to see.

  4. Perspective is a wonderful thing!

    1. Yes it is Jim and for the last couple of years I’ve been trying like hell to just see the nicer things. It’s a challenge at times.

  5. Very true! The reverse is also true in a world in which most people (online) present lives that look perfect or nearly perfect. Sincerity is nice, but social media has all but ruined that. 🙂

    1. Couldn’t agree more Mary Anne. I’ve intentionally rearranged some social media, getting tired of it all.

You do have to watch what you say though, I read what you put up. I can do without your winters, but otherwise, you sure look like you have nearly perfect. 🙂

      1. Ha! That’s not my fault; Alaska really is nearly perfect, to me at least! 🙂

And you wouldn’t have minded this winter… we beat the record for least snowfall in Anchorage: a meager 25 inches. And it mostly melted after each snowfall.
