Don’t forget that some of us don’t know what RSS is and don’t want to know, don’t know of any other way of to get info on your latest posts other than by email.
I’ve noticed more blogs have no way of subscribing or subscribing to posts via email.
It’s usually an easy fix.
I use Subscribe2 plugin for WordPress. It’s a no brainer to use and just might keep people coming back.
At least me.
I’m sure blogspot or whatever else is out there has similar plugins or capabilities.
If anyone reading this knows of blogs that don’t have this feature, pass this on.

9 Dec 2012What I don’t get is the Blogger guys who don’t have a subscribe button either.

9 Dec 2012Me either Dan. I’m sure RSS would get me the latest greatest, but that’s not going to happen. Either I get info by email or I’m not interested. I don’t want feeds, they’re annoying.
LOL, now get off my lawn. Such a grump.

9 Dec 2012I like to subscribe by email too. I have the hardest time remembering to go to my Google Reader to catch some of my favs. Like The River Damsel. I love reading her but don’t remember to do it on a timely basis since I don’t get emails. My loss for sure.

10 Dec 2012I agree Pam. I only have so much time I care to spend cruising around the web. Getting something via email is a much better reminder than having to go that extra step, which I always forget too.

11 Dec 2012Ken,
I’m in the email camp myself.
I’ve found if I can subscribe via email, I like when a new post email comes into my mailbox and I can jump right over to read someones new words.
RSS feeds, for me, just become a big old jumbled mess of words. I must be grumpy too…
And it’s easy, on any platform, to offer subscriptions. Maybe in the near future I’ll do up a post about it on the OBN Blog tips. I’ll probably even cite your post here =)
Rebecca
11 Dec 2012I’ll mention here as well. The other way I keep track of blogs that I personally really like (I’m probably biased for this option) is everyday I browse all the new posts that come into the OBN community news. The titles and descriptions catch my attention and off I go to read….
Ken G
11 Dec 2012Thank Rebecca.
OBN community news is my other source. That’s actually what sparked this. I got to a site I had never visited before, liked what I saw, then couldn’t subscribe via email. I bookmarked it, but that list is long and I tend to forget to look.
I was glad when Facebook decided to unsubscribe me from 90 percent of my friends back at the beginning of the year. That jumbled mess of words thing. Last week I figured out how to re-subscribe, but I use that knowledge sparingly. Silence is sometimes golden.

12 Dec 2012Feedburner has an widget that can be used in Blogger. And I’m also a big fan of email. Like others, sorting through an RSS reader’s output can be frustrating.

12 Dec 2012Steve, I think if I had all the time in the world I might be able to tolerate RSS feeds and a lot of the instant notifications that are available. But my too much info antennae have been up a lot lately and I really have to pick and choose. Email allows that.
Funny thing, at the bottom of my posts are all those little icons for sharing. I have Facebook, screw twitter and I have no clue what the others are. They are only there cause I don’t know how to get rid of them.
Another odd thing, that post I put up the other day about why I fish got over 500 visits from Reddit. Someone put it up there. I went and looked at Reddit, as much as I enjoyed those numbers, I can’t even imagine getting involved with it. Looks nightmarish.

12 Dec 2012I know that I’ve got an RSS feed and email subscription is my spammers tell me it doesn’t work. Ha!
Ken G
12 Dec 2012I get that note all the time Howard. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
