Mister crayfish says… you’ll have to trust me on this…
When the smallies start hitting on the Fox River, use something colored pumpkinseed/chartreuse.

5 Apr 2015The few crayfish I’ve found in the Fox all looked like this Bob. On the Kank they’re everywhere and they’re more solid colored. I have some YUM craws in a brown that work really well there. On the Dupe, I’m not sure. Haven’t fished that river enough to find out. Out on the Apple, solid brown again.

5 Apr 2015They do like those crawdads.

5 Apr 2015The Fox is more of a minnow factory Robin, it’s actually rare that I find crayfish and this one was a good size. On the Kankakee River in the shallows, you have to quit looking down as you walk because you’ll start guilt tripping about all the ones you’re stepping on.

5 Apr 2015Down here, Mr. Crayfish might find himself on a trotline hook — or in a pot of boiling water.

5 Apr 2015They’re pretty good for catfish Jim. I’d love to be able to eat them, but I looked it up for the rivers around here. Not recommended. Damn water quality.

11 Apr 2015Is his coloration for real? That’s a beautiful turquoise! He’s got quite the look.

11 Apr 2015The color is for real Mary Anne. My memory fades, but I think it’s there mating/molting colors. I should put up the rest of the pictures I took of him. Had one claw nearly twice the size of the other. I hear they can lose them and grow them back.

11 Apr 2015That is perfect indeed.
